Mark McShane brings a wealth of local government knowledge to LG Talent following a diverse and comprehensive career working in the sector and consulting environments.

 

Mark’s local government career extends over 35 years, which includes significant experience as a Chief Executive Officer and Senior Executive roles in Corporate Services, Community Development and Human Resource Management. This includes roles in large metro councils, as CEO for the City of Mount Gambier, and more recently interim CEO in rural, regional and peri-urban Councils including Light Regional, Wakefield Regional, Tumby Bay, Southern Mallee and Karoonda East Murray.

 

This career diversity has ensured Mark brings first-hand knowledge of the role of CEO and senior positions in the sector, and the skills and experience needed to be successful within local government. Further, he brings comprehensive knowledge of the Local Government Act, operational procedures and protocols, challenges facing councils, governance, human resource management and sustainability.

 

Importantly, Mark has a comprehensive understanding of the role of the Mayor and Elected Members, their relationships with the CEO and senior staff, to deliver positive outcomes and services to community. Due to his diverse background, Mark relates to councils of all sizes and is equally capable to assist with the staffing needs of both rural or large metropolitan councils whether they be seeking a CEO, Specialist Executive, or technical Manager across all portfolio areas. Additionally, Mark also has past executive recruitment and consulting experience serving the local government sector, specialising in CEO and senior/specialist staff appointments.

 

Rounding out his professional experience, Mark has also worked in and consulted to the private and not for profit sectors, nationally and internationally. Leveraging his vast experience, Mark is very well networked across the sector at all levels, positioning him well to maximise and ensure successful recruitment outcomes.

 

Over his career Mark has gathered a comprehensive understanding of council operations, has a down to earth, pragmatic approach ensuring positive client relationships throughout all interactions and processes.
